The NTMWD service area includes some of the fastest growing cities in Texas. The NTMWD tracks water usage through Water Use Charts that are updated weekly. These charts were originally developed to assist the NTWMD and its Member Cities and Customers to track water use and reductions achieved during the 2005-2007 drought period.

With the 2005-2007 drought response measures in place, the NTMWD Member Cities and Customers saved an estimated 12-15% on an annualized average and shaved off peak summer demands by an estimated 200 million gallons per day. The drought restrictions were lifted in July 2007, and the water use was anticipated to increase. However, water usage has and continues to remain below the projected demands. This pattern of water use can be primarily attributed to the ongoing water management strategies being implemented the Member Cities and Customers Water Conservation Plans and the continuation of the Water IQ awareness and education campaign.
The long-term benefits to the environment will be more efficient use of water; reduced waste, and a delayed need for development of additional water supplies.
