Overview
For long-term planning, NTMWD continually evaluates solid waste management and processing needs to ensure we can adequately meet future demand.
A new transfer station is being planned in the northern portion of our Member Cities area that will accommodate future growth. The landfill in Melissa has been operating since 2004 and has a projected life of less than 40 more years.
At the landfill, we partnered with Morrow Renewables, LLC, to construct and operate a gas-to-energy production program that further controls odors, converts the gas to renewable energy, and generates revenue to help offset the solid waste system's operations and maintenance costs. The plant was recently acquired and is now operated by Enbridge, a diversified energy company.
