Algae gives NTMWD water supply ‘earthy’ taste, smell

North Texas’ hot, dry weather over recent weeks has left the North Texas Municipal Water District’s water supply with a taste and smell that doesn’t seem quite right. But officials say the water is perfectly safe to drink.

“We are receiving calls about changes in taste and odor, with some customers noticing an ‘earthy’ smell from their water,” district spokesperson Janet Rummel said.
