Title: Assistant General Manager - Solid Waste & Integrated Services


Role

As the Assistant General Manager - Solid Waste & Integrated Services, Jeff Mayfield oversees all aspects of the regional Solid Waste System as well as Integrated Services which comprises Environmental Services, Information Technology, Maintenance, and Safety. The Regional Solid Waste System includes three transfer stations and an operating landfill that processes approximately 1 million tons annually, a contracted compost facility, and a contracted renewable energy high BTU plant that converts landfill gas to high BTU renewable natural gas. The NAFA award-winning Fleet Department responsibly manages nearly 1,000 on-road and off-road rolling stock. Environmental Services is comprised of Environmental Monitoring, Laboratory, Pretreatment, and Regulatory Compliance. These departments support the needs of the Regional Water, Wastewater, and Solid Waste Systems through environmental monitoring, sample analysis, permit support, regulatory compliance, and implementation of the industrial pretreatment program. The NTMWD Laboratory is a full-service facility accredited by The Nelac Institute (TNI).

Experience & Background

Before joining NTMWD in 2005, Jeff started his environmental stewardship career consulting for several national environmental consulting firms before moving to a national waste management company for more than 11 years. While there, he initially served as an internal compliance engineer and then subsequently managed the day-to-day operations for two landfills in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Jeff then served as General Manager responsible for the landfills and transfer stations in the DFW market, as well as a hauling company.

Jeff is serving his second appointment to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's Municipal Solid Waste Management and Resource Recovery Advisory Council and is currently the President. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Texas chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America. Additionally, he is serving as the Vice-Chair of the Texas Water Association Risk Management Fund Board of Trustees.
