Title: Director of Solid Waste


Role

As the Director Solid Waste, Mike Friesen is responsible for strategy, planning, and management oversight of the District's Solid Waste System and Fleet Operations which includes leading a staff of 118 team members and managing a $50 million annual budget. The regional Solid Waste System includes three transfer stations, one operating landfill, and two closed landfills serving approximately 900,000 residents in six counties. The transfer stations are permitted to process up to 4,125 tons per day and the landfill accepts more than 4,100 tons per day, increasing annually in this rapidly growing geographic region. The District's Fleet Department consists of an on-road, heavy-duty truck shop and a light-duty service center servicing nearly 1,000 District vehicles and ancillary units.

Experience and Background 

Mike is a member of the Solid Waste Association of North America and serves on the Noth Central Texas Council of Governments Resource Conservation Council and is a member of the Facility Conformance Subcommittee.

  • Oklahoma State University - Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) - (MSW) Class A operator license
