Speakers
George S. Hawkins, Esq, CEO and General Manager of D.C. Water, sharing his passion for the water industry and drive to create future water leaders. WFAA Weather’s Colleen Coyle will give her perspective on our current weather conditions, and Erik Eckl, founder of Water Words that Work, will round out the morning by providing insight on communicating effectively. Lunch is included with your symposium registration.
Afternoon format
After lunch the format changes gears to short, powerful, thought-provoking presentations: Water Talks. Presenters include Tom Gooch, Freese and Nichols; Vinny Minchillo, Glass House Strategies; Brooke Goggans, Mosaic Strategy Partners; Jason Gehrig, TRWD; Lori De La Cruz, Mountain View College; Lee J. Colan, Ph.D., The L Group and Della Faye, Speaker/Author.
Symposium Lunch Selection
A hot plate lunch will be served: pulled pork with slider rolls, buttermilk fried chicken, baked beans, mac and cheese, fruit salad, coleslaw, cornbread, and peach cobbler. Vegetarian options available – watch for instructions during the registration process.

Relearn the language that everyday citizens use and become more confident and successful with your outreach. This workshop provides unique insights into what words and pictures turn your audience on and off.
Part 1. The Perils of Preaching to the Choir
You will discover how to spot the signs of “preaching to the choir” and recognize when you are sending messages that miss the mark or antagonize your audience.
Part 2. The Environmental Message Method, Steps 1-4
You will learn a proven step-by-step method to translate professional caliber information into messages for the general public.
Part 3. The Environmental Message Method, Steps 5 and 6
You will discover techniques for getting others to vouch for you, and you will learn how to scientifically measure how easy or difficult your writing is to read.

In addition to the symposium and workshop, this networking event provides an opportunity to meet and mix with the symposium speakers and other attendees while enjoying complimentary appetizers and beverages. Even though it’s not swimming season, it’s sure to be an inviting atmosphere to relax after a long day.
