If you are an experienced birder, join us for the always exciting Audubon Christmas Bird Count. We’ll be moving fast, identifying and counting the many species in our wetland. (In last year’s count, we ID’d 133 species and more than
142,000 individual birds.)
This will mark our 11th year of partnering with Trinity River Audubon Center in southeastern Dallas in a bird count that has been held across the nation since 1900. The count is important to us in preparing our wildlife management plan and to researchers studying the longterm trend status of birds worldwide. Birding begins before sunup so we can count nocturnal birds. Then after an intense but fun day, we’ll gather back at the Wetland Center to tabulate sightings, enjoy dinner and swap bird tales. Come take part in this important project.
