Failing service lines contribute to billions of gallons in water loss in McKinney

McKinney lost about 2.5 billion gallons of water last year mostly because of leaks from failing service lines, according to city staff.

About 27,000 service lines are prematurely failing, and many are copper ones installed over the last 15 years. They’ve been the primary culprits in the city losing 35 million gallons – about $70,000 worth – just in the past three months.
