New reservoir project on track (Bois d’Arc Lake)

Agreement reached with Fannin County

NTMWD continues to prepare for construction to begin on the Bois d’Arc Lake project in early 2018. In June, the Fannin County Commissioners and NTMWD Board of Directors approved an agreement formalizing commitments by the District to address local impacts from construction and operation of the new reservoir. The agreement includes commitments to support Fannin County water needs, protect water quality, rehabilitate or improve roads, cover lost tax revenues, provide adequate security, treat landowners fairly, and construct an emergency operations center and recreation areas. The District has been coordinating with County officials for several years to ensure we are a good partner before, during and after construction of the lake. Final federal permit on schedule

Thanks to support from local Congressional leaders, led by Rep. Sam Johnson, the schedule for the final federal permit needed to construct the reservoir is still on track. To comply with the Water Infrastructure and Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act legislation passed in 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently reported to Congress on the status of the final permit for the reservoir. According to the report, the federal agencies are expected to make a final decision on the permit as early as December 2017.

Local contractor involvement workshops

NTMWD is holding contractor involvement workshops this summer to encourage participation by local businesses. On July 20, local contractors and businesses in Fannin, Delta, Grayson, Hunt and Lamar counties are invited to meet with project and construction representatives to learn more about potential opportunities for local businesses in the project area. A second workshop on August 29 is planned for contractors in the entire NTMWD service area. Both events will be held at the Fannin County Multi-Purpose Complex in Bonham. Check for project details on the Bois d’Arc Lake page.
