Exposed lake beds once covered with water crack under the sun as the shoreline retreats farther from where its former position. With an extended drought leaving a noticeable effect on many of the lakes that supply the nearly 1.6 million residents of the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), district planners are preparing to begin a project at Lavon Lake to maintain its water supply.
