Wylie, Texas — The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will host an open house Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at North Texas Municipal Water District – Training Room, located at 505 E. Brown Street, Wylie, TX 75098 for the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center to seek public input and discuss master planning efforts.

The East Fork Wetland Project, the largest man-made wetland in the U.S., doubles as a water reuse project and a thriving wildlife habitat – most notably as the home of a pair of breeding bald eagles.  Located in the middle of the nearly 2,000-acre wetland, the Wetland Center provides education and research opportunities for wildlife management and water conservation.

The East Fork Wetland Project was constructed in 2009 by the North Texas Municipal Water District as a water reuse project to naturally filter water from the East Fork of the Trinity River through the wetland before pumping that water to Lavon Lake for storage and future treatment as drinking water.

The open house is an opportunity for North Texans to learn more and provide valuable input on future plans and programs for the Wetland Center. Find more information on the event at www.ntmwd.com or at www.wetlandcenter.com.
