A new mobile gaming app featuring wildlife native to Lavon Lake is teaching children to help their parents save water and making it more likely that families will talk about water conservation at home.
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) developed this fun interactive education tool — one of the first of its kind created by a water utility. The app has been developed as part of an overall education campaign that teaches children the importance of water conservation and encourages them to talk about saving water at home. As part of the game, Otis the Otter and Farrah the Fox provide water-saving tips to help protect their natural habitat — Lavon Lake — and to use water efficiently. The NTMWD’s announcement comes in advance of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Fix a Leak Week, March 16-22, 2015.
