For long-term planning, NTMWD continually evaluates solid waste management and processing needs to ensure we can adequately meet future demand.
A new transfer station is being planned in the northern portion of our Member Cities area that will accommodate future growth. The landfill in Melissa has been operating since 2004 and has a projected life of less than 40 more years.
At the landfill, we partnered with Morrow Renewables, LLC for construction and operation of a gas-to-energy production program that further controls odors, converts the gas to renewable energy, and generates revenue to help offset the operations and maintenance costs of the solid waste system.
In August 2017 we completed construction of our new Lookout Drive Transfer Station in Richardson. To learn more about this project, visit the Lookout Drive Transfer Station project page.
