Safety and Security Matters at NTMWD

The nation’s critical infrastructure provides essential services that underpin American society and sustain the American way of life. Critical Infrastructure and Resilience Month builds awareness and appreciation of the importance of our nation’s most essential infrastructure and reaffirms the nationwide commitment to keep our communities safe and secure.

The security and resilience of our infrastructure is vital not only to public confidence, but also to the nation’s safety, prosperity, and well-being. Security is a national priority that requires planning and coordination across the entire community. As cyber attacks on critical infrastructure increase, we must look ahead to combat these tactics.

NTMWD has invested in new technologies aimed at improving our systems’ protection and monitoring capabilities. For our business operations, we use firewalls and intrusion prevention systems to minimize the number of attacks. Additionally, we perform frequent data back-ups, as well as offsite data storage, to give us the ability to restore and get services back online as soon as possible.

Our industrial controls network which manages our systems’ operations is isolated from outside systems and the internet in order to prevent any type of virus or denial of service that would interrupt critical operations of our facilities. We recognize the importance of remaining vigilant in these efforts because we provide critical services that our customers rely on every hour of every day.
