As the Assistant Deputy – Information Technology, Jim Shirley oversees all aspects of Information Technology, including the Business Network,  the Enterprise Asset Management Program, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Surveillance and Secure Access programs.  Jim collaborates with the NTMWD Assistant Deputy – Maintenance to implement the District’s Computerized Maintenance Management System, known as Maximo.

Experience & Background

Jim has served as the Assistant Deputy  since February 2011 and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the IT Department, which serves as the hub for all communications and information systems.

Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Charleston Southern University in South Carolina, graduating magna cum laude. He retired in 1998 from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in the Submarine Force where he served aboard four nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines.

Jim spent many years in the technology field prior to working for NTMWD, including at Intervoice, Inc. where he managed hardware, network, and software solutions for the telecom technology provider. He also worked for Cisco Systems where he managed the new product development for business technology communication and switching solutions, as well as scalable, cost-effective security technologies.
