Industrial, Commercial, Institutional, and Multifamily Resources
Water conservation and the efficient use of today’s supply is more important now than ever. Conservation not only helps extend water supplies during frequent Texas droughts but is also critical to meet future water demands in our fast-growing region. As part of its comprehensive water conservation strategy, North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is pleased to offer no-cost Water Efficiency Opportunity Surveys (WEOS) for industrial, commercial, institutional, and multifamily businesses in NTMWD member cities.
WEOS surveys are completely funded by the North Texas Municipal Water District and performed by Plummer Associates, a contracted engineering consultant. Plummer has surveyed more than 1,300 buildings in a wide variety of industries throughout the DFW region in the last decade.
By finding opportunities to improve efficiency in industrial, commercial, and institutional water use processes, water, wastewater, and energy costs can be reduced. Thirty-four facilities across NTMWD’s region participated in this program in 2023, resulting in 93 building surveys and a potential annual water savings of 105 million gallons.
To maximize this program’s potential for water savings by industrial pretreatment customers, NTMWD will prioritize participation based on consumption volume but will add all interested customers to the list for participation in the program as openings occur.
Services included in the WEOS program include:
- A pre-survey meeting to explain the process and discuss the current water use at the property.
- Historical consumption data analysis and creation of a water use balance.
- A comprehensive facility walk-through to evaluate water-using fixtures, appliances, systems, and processes (including industrial pretreatment, irrigation, and cooling tower systems) to identify water efficiency measures and make recommendations to improve efficiency as appropriate.
- A comprehensive written report includes recommendations and estimated returns on investment for implementation of each recommendation.
- A post-survey meeting to review the report and recommendations for increased water efficiency and the potential for reducing pretreatment costs through onsite reuse opportunities.
When you are ready for a WEOS survey or would just like more information, please contact NTMWD Public Education Manager Kathy Fonville (kfonville@ntmwd.com or 469-626-4306) or email WEES@plummer.com to set up a virtual meeting to discuss the process in more detail.
