Protecting Our Environment

Preventing Environmental Impacts

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) remains committed to protecting public health and the environment. We work closely with our communities to ensure safe, reliable operations of our regional wastewater conveyance systems, including preventing sanitary sewer overflows. However, even with preventative maintenance, these events may occasionally occur due to unforeseen mechanical issues, clogs in the wastewater system, or excessive rainfall.

When these events occur, our team of professionals rushes to the site to assess potential environmental impacts. Depending on the size and nature of the discharge, NTMWD may notify and begin working with local or state law enforcement, city officials and staff, and environmental regulatory agencies.

Odor Management

Being a good neighbor is important to NTMWD. We use proven, reliable technologies at our facilities to treat odorous air prior to release. Our goal is to operate without our neighbors noticing we are there.

We have a dedicated crew to maintain our odor control equipment and respond to infrequent complaints. They are trained to respond quickly, identify the source of the odor, and make necessary adjustments. If you have a question or concern about odor at any of our facilities, please contact 469-626-4900, and one of our staff members who specializes in odor control will respond.
